mac and quadro fx 4800 is fast or very slow compared to PC

i use a mac pro,
i want buy a nvidia quadro fx 4800, but i heared that quadro fx 4800 on mac is very slow compared to the same quadro fx 4800 onto a PC.. it's the same problem for render onto octane? or this problem is only for display and not for rendering...

Somebody have compared rendering with mac and PC with same configuration?

Hi,

I would not buy a quadro, it's very expensive and you'll get much better performance with geforce cards.
If i were you, i'd buy a GTX480 card and use bootcamp to run windows 7 x64, with octane render.

this will give you the best speed at a low price, and you'll have a 64bit octane render version (does'nt exist yet for apple due to nvidia not having a 64bit capable CUDA),
so you can load large scenes into it.

Is that a common solution? I am looking at the same issue, and i don't mind shelling out for a nicer gfx card (my gt120 isn't exactly killing it in octane), but will that adjustment be a painful one? What I mean is, will it fit well into the rails, and onto the mobo with my gt120? Will just simply installing the correct drivers in windows under bootcamp and having the card plugged in take care of everything (as long as I am in windows)? Or does it get techier than that... Basically, having a 2.66 mac pro quad, should I be at all apprehensive bopping over to newegg and throwing down on a gtx480 and a copy of windows 7? Or it closer in hardware skill level to dropping in some more RAM? I'm only wondering because I think this renderer is so slick! Thanks for any input, especially if you've done this already.

I think it's better to have someone who knows about macs reply here.
As long as you have a PCI-E slot and a possiblity for a full-length card, it should work.
