Hi, so I decided to put my animation to render on 2 computers, but there is a slight difference in brightness...
so the same scene,
both computers have nvidia 314.07 driver,
both have octane 1.11a,
both windows 7
both 3dsmax 2012
first computer has graphic card nvidia 570 and nvidia 670,
other one has nvidia 460 and nvidia 470...

why is there difference in brightness?

Image

ps: with backburner or without issue is the same

and btw, I just noticed that only diffuze material is making that slight difference, all other materials like Specular and Glossy don't make a change, they all display correctly on each computer

Which kernel are you using? This can happen with the PMC kernel in some scenes.

so,.. is there any solution to this, or it's best that for now I just don't use Diffuse material in the future? I need to have a trusty renderer, I often can't afford to test if everything is working ok on network renderings, I need to know in advanced that all is stable...

We are not aware of anything that can cause inconsistent brightness in renderings with path tracing.

Is the brightness the same if you use a glossy material with the glossy reflection set to zero? Do you get this difference in all scenes? And does the standalone version also produce this difference?

Sorry it took a while for me to test this, didn't have time...
so here it goes.
When I puted glossy material without reflections, I didn't get difference in brightness... so this is a potential bypass...
other scenes didn't have this issue
I didn't test in standalone yet
