And it's not a request for info about Octane Live.

Radiance, you have stated that:
Re: *** Octane 2.3+ will require network connection for use ***
Hey,

as said this is not a licensing / anti piracy scheme which checks upon octane launch(as that's easily cracked).
think of it more as octane render becoming a world of warcraft client.

Yet you have also stated "Relax, we never said you would need a steady connection to finish a render !"

Ok, the thing is, World of Warcraft DOES require a constant and stable internet connection.
If there is any interruption in the connection, the game cannot be played.

So you compare how it will work to World of Warcraft, and yet elsewhere you state that
you don't need a steady connection to finish a render.

So it's more than just checking the software when the software is first opened every day,
we got that much.

To what degree will it require the constant and stable internet connection?
The exact same as World of Warcraft? Do people stand to lose their renders
if the internet connection has a momentary glitch after 23 hours of rendering?

I am not looking for info about Octane Live. I'm asking about the internet
connection business.

Is it as simple as:

When there is a connection the renderer can render

and

When there is no connection the renderer cannot render?

Thanks

iirc it wasn't Radiance who said ""Relax, we never said you would need a steady connection to finish a render !""
Afaik, No official info/replies in the posts I read has been given on how stability of connection will effect rendering (of stills or animation).

There are far too many threads on this topic as is, so at this point it's best to just wait for 2.3 which should be just around the corner!

It was said By Nostromo who is an employee of his, so sure I stand corrected, whatever.

It is not your place to tell me how many threads are too many. They can answer or not as they
wish.

No official replies have been given? Exactly what does the statement: "Octane Render, as of
beta 2.3, will require an internet connection to be used." mean?

Let's think about this. It will require an internet connection. The word require means
you have to have it or you cannot render. And yet people are going around claiming that he
never said that. Why?

And an employee of his is claiming it's not true. So I' m asking for a clarification.

come one guys, we've already told you, you can finish a render without a connection, marc (nostromo) clearly told you this.
so if you're rendering your final and you unplug your network connection, you can render it to the end and save it.

anyways, i'd appreciate it if people stop making new threads and just wait for 2.3 to make judgements,
all you're doing is creating stress asking premature questions. and stress = more time to relax needed for me = slower development.

Radiance, some of us don't need stress either. This sounds like a bad idea that has many of us frustrated, but I'll reserve judgement 'til 2.3, as requested. But seriously, if you want less stress, I heartily recommend not dumping potentially negative surprise changes on a community without prior discussion.

With respect also, (and I mean with respect, because I know what it's like to be unwell) you need to lay in the bed you make. You can't put it back on the community. If you want people to understand what you're trying to tell them, you need to explain the thing properly. Then, if they dislike the idea, you'll need to do something about it, because those unhappy people aren't going to magically go away. They paid for a specifically roadmapped program. They didn't pay for additional extras and other surprises that don't suit their workflow.

I'm sure there could be a lot less stress for all of us if you handled things differently. My two cents.

Maybe there will be a solution for people who wont or cant connect to the internet?
If not you can use Arion or your old CPU based renderer.
If you are worried about security, another option would be a Hardware firewall, as Radiance said already in the main thread.

Keep in mind, Octane is still beta, what means without any warranty for function and changes.

I think I speak for everyone when saying I can't wait to see v2.3 and what this whole topic is all about.

Let's see!
