Hi Octane Team !
I'm new here. I'm a French Blender user, and I’d really like to use Octane as render engine, espescially after watching the impressive EcoRobot demo video made by Lechu.
Octane seems to be very promising, but unfortunately I’ve not yet achieved to do anything with its demo because the software shuts down each time I click on the Mesh node !
I have tried with both Octane 8000 and 9000 versions.
My Video card is a GeForce 8800 GTS 512, on an intel QX9650 at 3GHz with 4GB of RAM working under Windows XP Pro 32 bits.
I know that it may not be a very powefull card, but it is supposed to be compatible and I have loaded a very simple and light scene with only a wall with a vault and a lamp.
Please could you give me some clue about this trouble ?
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Philippe.

Hi ROUBAL nice to see you here
Does Octane start rendering?
Do you see something on screen or it directly crash?
Also have you tried before importing a mesh to activate subsampling? (c'est les icones en damier dans l'interface)
Maybe its because you don't have CUDA installed
CUDA can be found in two things, the CUDA driver or the last version of the Nvidia driver
Can you post your graphic driver number? its something like 195.2
Your video card should be able to run Octane (slow but without problems)

You should use the octane8000.exe,
and make sure you have the correct drivers installed,
all the information is in the readme.txt file that comes with octane.
If this still doesn't help,
can you post a screenshot of your device manager panel ?
Click on the menu on top: File -> Device Manager
and make a screenshot, then post the image here...
Thanks,
Radiance

Hi,
I have downloaded and installed this driver from Nvidia Cuda page :
cudadriver_2.3_winxp_32_190.38_general.exe
Octane opens and I have checked my Video card compatibilty (My card is displayed in Octane Harware panel).
To answer to Sam's question : Also have you tried before importing a mesh to activate subsampling ? No I have not (well,I'm not sure though, because I have checked most of the buttons in the hope of finding tips (info bubbles) like in Blender.
I load a mesh node, and I click on it : For a very short time (around half a second), I can see the materials settings on the right side of the screen, and then Octane shuts down.

Thanks,
I will try later this night or tomorrow, because the computer I use for internet is not at the same place as the one I use for work.

the problem is most likely driver related.
grab the latest drivers here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_get.html
(not the beta drivers)
uninstall your current driver, even if it's the same,
and reinstall the one you downloaded.
Then test it, with the spaceships scene.
if this does'nt work, post your device manager screenshot as i mentioned

Here is a screen shot of my Device Manager on Octane :

The Cuda Driver Version shows 0.00
Does it mean that the Cuda Driver is not installed ?
When I double click on the Cuda Driver exe file, I only get very shortly a console (that seems to be blank).
The Driver file is :
cudadriver_2.3_winxp_32_190.38_general.exe
I have several questions :
Its size is only 41 Ko. Is it the real size of the Cuda driver ?
I ask that because My Nvidia original driver is :
169.21_forceware_winxp_32bit_international_whql.exe
And its size is 71.939 Ko !
Is the Cuda Driver an additional driver, or is it supposed to replace the original one ?
I use my video card in Dual screen on two Samsung 4/3 screens. As I use every day this machine, I can't get it crashed and I don't want to waste time to repair my config, so It is important to know what to do exactly to install the Cuda feature.
I've read on the Nvidia Cuda site that under Windows XP, it could be necessary to have no screens connected to the video card used for rendering... and I have only one video card and two screens connected to it !
