I think more transparancy, and more color.. This is too much pastel color.

Excellent start!

I have to agree with rappet. But instead of more transparency maybe you could do a transparency map to give the balloons a more mottled look and the unstretched parts less transparency.

I think its too transparent now.
Did you try a falloff map for transparency?

Yes, of course.
Balloons are made of one-sided polygons.
There is not so thick with the illuminated side of the material is almost transparent, and with the shadow side too transparent.
Very hard to make predictable material for single-sided polygons.
