How is render speed in 3dsmax related to the standalone version?
I am wondering if it depends on the standalone version, since you
have to install both of them...

Yes, the 3ds max plugin uses the standalone edition core so the speed is the same for the actual render. Obviously the integration makes it a lot faster to use in terms of workflow.

Cheers

3dsmax plugin uses only standalone licence. No matter what version of standalone you use.

render speed is the same? What about the Kepler build?
Is there a difference between standalone and 3dsmax?

Speed is the same.
Kepler is not supported fully. only 2.58f build supports kepler.

Hi gueoct,

Sorry for the confusion...
I was under the impression it used the actual code installed by the standalone which as Karba pointed out is wrong, it has it's own copy of the rendering code.
This would by why the speed is the same etc since the rendering core is the same but it does not actually use the installed standalone code.

Sorry about that.

(Karba can correct me if i'm wrong :))

Cheers
Chris.

I have seemed to see a difference in speed between the standalone and plugin.I just regularly like to lots of testing on these releases and the plugin seems to be nearly 2x slower than the standalone.

Can you show us some of your testings?
Images, times, and scenes?
