I'm pretty happy with the performance of my Quadro FX 1800 and Octane, at least compared to CPU-only unbiased renderers I have used. How much faster would a GTX 480 be compared to my Quadro FX 1800 with Octane? I have always liked the Quadro cards for modeling. The GTX has double the RAM of my FX 1800, but is the GTX 480 as good (or better) than a Quadro for modeling?

You will be amazed at the difference. I use to be a big supporter of the Quadro cards back in the AGP days, but when I first moved to PCIe a lot of people said that just sticking to a high end gaming card would do fine by comparison. The newer fermi based ones with more ram would be better, but I am sure they'll be insanely expensive.
