How do I get a background bitmap to appear in my scene? I created an environment texture with the bitmap in it and dropped it into the Max environment setting with Use Environment / Apply environment turned on both there and in the Octane render dialog. However, it doesn't show up in the scene renders. I have an Octane sunlight in the scene — is that overriding the background? I don't really care if the background image affects the lighting on the scene for this project.
Thank you.

You have to switch off daylight if you have one.buggy wrote:How do I get a background bitmap to appear in my scene? I seem to be running into this problem again. I turned off the Octane daylight and even deleted it, but the environment bitmap isn't appearing as the image background.
I also tried checking and unchecking "keep environment" in the Octane render settings but it didn't seem to make any difference.
I am using the latest beta 3.00d version of the Max plugin.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Emihich, the mistake that I was making is that one can't just drop a bitmap into the environment slot. I don't think it is covered in the documentation but you have to create an Octane material and select Texture Environment for the type and then select the bitmap for it and finally drag the new material into Max's environment slot.
Hope this helps.

Oh my Gosh, I Thougth only dropping the HDR texture in the Max environment slot would do it.Thank you Buggy.
Why is this not covered in the documentation ? and which kind of material shall I use ?there is no texture environment material , but difuse , Glossy, specular etc...
Also I can't drop an Octane material in the max environment slot , it won't accept.
Please explain your workflow.

I think I know what you mean I've applied an Octane Image texture bitmap, not a material , on the 3dsmax environment slot ... and worked.
