Hi.

Is anyone out there working with Lightwave11 Modeler (or earlier) and had a problem with its exporter messing up a few of the UVs? I have a lwo file with about 14 textured surfaces. When I export out, everything is fine except for 2 of them. LW Modeler says the UVs are correct and indeed, everything renders OK in LW...just not after it is exported to obj.

It seems that wavefront obj is unreliable because no matter what program I use to export out from, if one program gets it right on one count, it will mess up on another. Is the OBJ standard messed up, or is it that no one out there really follows the Wavefront specification like they should?

To add some background here, I found that building my UVs in BodyPaint gives me far more flexibility in designing the UVs and building the bitmaps. So I export OBJs from there into LW Modeler to set up the positions of all my objects. That part of my pipeline seems to work reliably. The problem is getting LW to behave and export properly.

It seems that many programs indeed implement OBJ slightly differently, we have had a couple of issues because of that with our OBJ reader. You can in Octane check the UV mapping with the deep_channel_kernel (in the last release candidate).

By release candidate, are you still referring to v1, beta 2.57?

No, it is the latest version in our release candidate version forum, beta 2.58c.
