does anybody tryed to use all the pci_e slots of a supercomputer card (asus) bypassing the proximity problem of using double size cards by cable extensions for the slots?

take a look here:
http://www.mycableshop.com/items.asp?Cc ... atus=1&Tp=
or, for explanation
http://www.adexelec.com/pciexp.htm#PEXP4-SX-4/1
as reference motherboard, I'm thinking to asus supercomputer P6T6WS (4 pci_e to use for multi gpu plus one pci_e for the "pure" video card. A dream come true, but the slots are spaced for single slot cards.

I was wondering on optimization of rare PCIe 2.0 x16 slots on current motherboards, focusing on the problem caused by proximity of the slots, than I found out this: PCI-E x16 -to- 2 PCI-E x8http://www.supermicro.com/support/resou ... riser.aspx
it basically splits a x16 in two x8.
well, the fact is that GTX 480 works good (2% less fast) on x8 ports
you can read about this here:

maybe this can solve a lot of problems, adding just a splitter and a couple of extension cables, as in my previous post.
bye

Should interesting to try out. I can see it handy for those boards that place the pcie ports right next to each other. The 8x versus 16x is not a big problem. The only time you would notice it is when Octane first loads the scene to the video card(s).

All systems are at stock speeds and settings.
