Try out the demo. It is free and has most of the features that a full license gives you. Animation is still in it's early stages, but on the way. There is a learning curve, but not a big one. The big thing will be at understanding your system's limitations in relation to your scene. You might want to jump up from the 9800's though. Things are sooooooo much better using gtx400's.

The demo version doesn't come with a manual, but you should check the videos section on the web to learn how to use (best 5 minutes spend of your life), and try out the demo, it's the more friendly app I've come across, and I've tried quite a few, I even would dare to say that it's "architect certified" (or fool-proof whichever suits you best ;) ).
Also check the gallery and wip forums, and pay attention to the times of the renders....
As an extra the customer service the team gives us is absolutly great.

Yeah, definitely check out the videos. I know the first one helped a lot to get me going back when there was no documentation at all, even for us licensed people. The documentation is great to have, but after playing with the software for a little while you wont find much that will surprise you. I'm sure the command line and animation stuff will add some further detail. The software is still developing, so the documentation will grow as new stuff pops up. If you runi nto a block, just ask and I am sure someone will be kind enough to help out if need be.
