Hi there. Your rendering engine looks very very promising. Just to confirm. Is it 100% compatible with vray or the workflow must be > new scene then export as compatible format then open to octane and attach materials from there? My apology for I haven't installed it yet because I am planning to use it at home for my personal works. Regards

You mean to ask if it works like vrayRT or Arion? The theory is the same, but it's not compatible with vray materials... but if you already have vray scenes there are scripts that convert to scanline and you can export to obj from there and use it in octane. can't think of another way you mean it

thanks for the reply vagos21
Yup. It's getting more clearer now. Octane is not compatible with Vray.

octane imports the materials written in the MTL file (which comes with the OBJ file) from your host application's native material system.Valiant wrote:thanks for the reply vagos21Yup. It's getting more clearer now. Octane is not compatible with Vray.
Unless your host application can convert materials for another external renderer to it's native material system, these won't be exported.

Thanks Radiance. How about if I want to modify the materials in the obj file being opened in octane? Is it possible to make modifications inside octane or do i need to go back to the host application, modify and update my material then reopened it again in octane?

that's the power of octane, you change/edit your materials and lighting in realtime in octane.Valiant wrote:Thanks Radiance. if you require to change geometry or UV maps, you export again, and use the relink button (at the end of the meshnode),
to relink the new OBJ file, keeping the octane materials intact. (they are kept by material name)

Cool! Do I need to have the materials attached to the object or I can attach a fresh material in octane? same goes with the lights? darn... wish i don't have to work overtime to lay my hand on octane tonight:( where can i see the tutorial of preparing materials and lighting in octane?
