Hi there, first time posting.

I have been playing with SSS fog effects trying to achieve a radiating glow effect. Something like a ball of energy. This is what I have done so far.

I created a simple scene with a ground plane and two nested spheres. The inner ball is a texture emitter. The outer ball is a specular with a scattering medium. The first 3 images are interesting and may be suitable for a glow globe or scrying ball but it is not the effect I am trying for. The fourth image simply adds transparency to the outer ball (50% opacity) and is much closer to the effect I want. The last image is my attempt at using the ball in a scene.

The problem is the hard edge on the rim of the effect. I want to feather the transparency as the light moves away from the source so that the edges blend into the background.

Any ideas, suggestions, or comments are welcome. Note that I am aware there are lots of issues with the girl.
