I am in the process of ordering a new pc for rendering.
I did some reading on the forums here and want to make sure I understood correctly.
Would it be possible to start with a GT240 now and add a GTX480 later. So I would use the GT240 now for both display and rendering but later I could switch the setup to have the GT240 do the display and the GTX480 dedicated for rendering only?
Thanks in advance
Chris
GT240 and GTX480 later?

I have a GT240 currently at home... I must say, it's really slow! I would add a GTX260 which is a decent card and not too expansive. And then use GTX480 after people do some proper tests with it.
the gt240 is meant for standard display stuff not for octane.
right now i render mainly with blender, yafaray and luxrender.
but i would like to be able to expand my hardware so that i can work with octane too.
as i have no experience with more than one graphics card in a pc i just want to make sure that this will work.

windows 7-64bit | core i7-860@2,80GHz | 8 GB RAM | GTX 260 (os) | GTX 480 (octane)

of course you have to consider if your MoBo and PowerSupply are adequate to host and feed 2GPUz...ligh wrote:as i have no experience with more than one graphics card in a pc i just want to make sure that this will work.
on topic I'd go for the 260GTX as others have suggested (maybe the one with 1.8Gb memory)
MacBookPro unibody 2x2.4GHz | 4Gb | 9400M+9600GT 256Mb | OSX 10.6.8
i7 2600-K @3.4GHz | 8Gb | GTX560Ti 2Gb | Windows7x64 | Octane 1.0 b2.52
