I just updated to the most recent drivers, my last drivers were from january of this year. Ran the installer again, same thing. I did load up daz and the plugin seems to work fine though. I was able to load the live DB, it rendered, everything I did before seems to work. what exactly is the octaneacm.exe for?
OctaneACM.exe allows you to authenticate your Octane account. If that PC already has the account authenticated it is not needed. But I am still puzzled as to why it is not working for you. I haven't had any other reports of this error.

OK, thank you. I haven't been able to reproduce this error. It could perhaps be caused by a specific geometry item in the scene, or some parenting which is glitching the plugin. If you find out any more information on this issue, please let me know.

Thanks

Paul
Hi Paul,

I have been able to reproduce this issue from my end. New Scene, new material, simple setup. Before and after pics plus scene attached. All details remain the same but Smart unfold seems to be affecting the rendering result.
I'm right-clicking on the Specular Material node and then pressing Smart Unfold.
I did not add nodes from the node list when creating this material but added from inside the material structure.

Hi - I replied to your original reporting of this issue as follows:
Thanks for providing the scene. Perhaps you could help here...to me it looks like unfolding a non-material node works OK, however when a material node is unfolded the result is a corrupted material, and the Amber Scene Surface can no longer be selected. I also notice that changing pins on the Mix texture doesn't restart the render, so there has been a break in the link between the Octane node in the NGE and the Octane node in the render engine.

Looking at the code, there is no obvious issue, and I suspect the issues around Smart Unfold have been there since the feature was added. My best guess is that fixing this would be a major undertaking.

I think the best solution is to disable the Smart Unfold option on Octane Material nodes.

Thoughts?

Hi Paul,

There are other issues with the smart unfold like it links node during unfolding those were not linked in the original definition. This happens if the value in nodes were the same. To me any node not linked in the original definition being copied should not be linked in the pasted and unfolded definition even if the values are the same.

But in any case, the smart unfold should not be disabled. It is still useful even if it is buggy. Please plan to fix this and also plan to fix the other long standing issues.

Hi Paul,

very sorry, I missed your previous post and no probs, was just kind of hoping it might have been an 'easy' fix.

I have to agree with Rajib as well: "It is still useful even if it is buggy."

Taking into account some previous comments throughout the forum it sounds as though any major updates and feature implementation to DS < Octane plugin is going to be very difficult/ unlikely.

Is there anything on the cards or a way where we can set up as much as possible in Studio with the Octane Plugin and then port that to Octane directly for further works, tweaking and rendering.
Kind of like GoZ for ZBrush.

Hi Paul,

One more issue with this version. For me the Denoiser render pass is not being shown in the Octane Viewport. I have Enable Denoising - On, Min Denoiser Samples is set to 10. Max denoiser interval is set to 120. I am doing a 1000 samples so it should be more than enough to trigger the denoiser. I also clicked on all the Denoiser passes and none of them showed up.

Can you please check.

Go in to the devices page and make sure you have one of your graphics ticked for Denoising.

Paul, I already have the "Denoise" ticked under the Device list for one of my graphic cards. So that is not the issue.

Hi Paul,

Just want to check with you if there is a way I can export the Octane material from Daz and import it in Houdini ? I will be using Octane render on both. The export material under the Octane System Tab exports all the materials on the scene right ? What about if I just want to export a selected object's Octane Materials ? Will you be able to add such an option ? Aim is e.g. I set the skin shader of the Daz G8F in the NGE in Daz and then export this Octane Material that contains all the surfaces for the G8F. After exporting G8F as OBJ and importing into Houdini, I then import the Octane Material I exported from Daz and assign it to G8F in Houdini and then render in Octane under Houdini.

The export of the materials can be in the Octane native format. If required I will ask the Houdini plugin developer to provide a import option that will read the Octane native format Material file and assign it correctly to all the object surfaces.

Hi Laticis,

I think that GoZ like feature will be the Octane > System (tab) -> Export -> Complete Scene. It is manual and does not automatically provide a back and forth way of doing things like ZBrush does with GoZ. But at least one can export from Daz and import the scene in Octane Standalone and tweak and render it there. Things that probably may not work is Daz Dynamic hair, etc but at least the LAMH Hair OBJs will show up correctly. In terms of importing it back after tweaking (Octane > System (tab) -> Import -> Complete Scene) I am not too sure what will happen to the Material nodes that the Daz plugin does not support that Octane Standalone does. I am never tried importing but have done export scene and open it in the standalone and it does work. Will probably need to do some RnD.
