garytyler wrote:Good to know. I actually tried it both ways. I have tried every configuration I can think of with what I have. I did notice your riser has the extra wires. Mine has 1 Yellow wire only. Might be helpful to post that link to the riser you're using on the video page because it is seeming like an important part of getting the Titan Z operating in full. For now, I went ahead and returned my Z and put in a reg Titan. I will be ordering one of those risers and seeing what I get. Thanks for the info man!

Have you compared benchmarks with 2 internal Titan Zs or tested daisy chaining different GPU models together? It would be interesting to know if there are any issues that arise with that. I'm just going to throw this out there... it sounds like you've got the hardware available to find the ultimate Octane eGPU setup. Of course 2 Titan Zs sounds about perfect but if say 3 reg Titans daisy chained is faster than 2 Titan Zs, that would be some good information. Just throwing this out there.

Kit 1: Akitio ($250) + power supply ($100) + reg Titan ($650 refurbished from Newegg) = $1000
Kit 2: Akitio ($250) + power supply ($100) + Titan Black ($1050) = $1400
Kit 3: Akitio ($250) + power supply ($100) + Titan Z ($1550) = $1900

Jose, you are leading the charge for eGPU rendering innovation!

I just read in this thread that claims OSX has a limit of 3 GPUs in an external PCI box. Can anyone here verify if this is true? I only have 2 cards at the moment but was planning to upgrade to another 2 more.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Jose

I have a Mac Pro Desktop (Trash bin model running with a titan Z)

I have a 1200 Watt PSU and I plugged the titan right into the AKITO PCI slot without any extra molex's it runs like a charm.

Could be that it is a light model load and I have not yet got it to the point where it starts to heat up a lot etc that it is doing OK. So I may need one but that is unusual is it not??

Anyway many thanks for your detailed help. You have made my home life a lot simpler. THANKS :D

Congrats on the setup! It sounds like a winner. Is the Titan Z loading as 2 cards with the driver, does it list them as both "Titan Z" in the System Report? I'm still trying to find out why my Titan Z setup wasn't working. It could just be that the Mac Pro T-Can doesn't need the molex support but that a MBPr does. I just got a couple molexs and ordered a new Titan Black. Hoping to run a Titan Black + Regular Titan on my MBPr. Fingers crossed!

My typo I am afraid... wishful thinking perhaps :>)
Jus a plain single Titan.

But I plan on trying a Z in the New Year
I'll let you know how it goes

Got ya. My guess is you will need one of those powered risers Jose links to above to run the Titan Z. The ones with less wires have not worked for me. Single cards run great with no riser though. :)

I'm guessing I should just bump around on Tech Inferno, just wondering if anyone had a similar guide for 3.0 8-)
