Funny thing, from some quick testing on a heavy scene I was working with the Multi-Core option ON it all really slowed down shader generation / refreshes. Any change to a shader in a heavy scene caused a 1 second UI freeze throughout C4D. My CPUs are 2x 2696v3 Xeons.
All that said, that was in the 2019 version, haven't tested it in the latest 2020 which by the way looks like a really awesome update to me!
Can't wait to see the multi-threading in action, such an awesome surprise!

If so try to don't use all cores. Leave a few cores is reserved for other operations. Also do not use multi-core for Live Viewer option and use render priority for gpus.nejck wrote:Funny thing, from some quick testing on a heavy scene I was working with the Multi-Core option ON it all really slowed down shader generation / refreshes. When Out Of Core is enabled and in usage, every render after successful last render fails. Reset render data helps to make next render fine.
error : failed to allocate device memory on two cards. NV Link ON but memory pooling not work of course. RTX OFF, multi-thread for materials ON
EDIT : This is caused by multi-thread for materials because when this setting is OFF every render starts fine without the need of reseting.

Interesting. You mean through Windows affinity settings or through C4D directly?aoktar wrote:If so try to don't use all cores. Leave a few cores is reserved for other operations. I'm testing with all cases, no crash with that. Are you using RTX?SSmolak wrote:When Out Of Core is enabled and in usage, every render after successful last render fails. Reset render data helps to make next render fine.

It doesn't crash but quit from rendering with error message or freeze. Reseting render by Octane button helps and after that next render go fine. It occur only when Out Of Core is in usage and multithreaded materials are on. RTX off. I mean full rendering not Live View window. I can provide test scene.aoktar wrote:I'm testing with all cases, no crash with that. Send me your scene if it's specific oneSSmolak wrote: It doesn't crash but quit from rendering with error message or freeze. Reseting render by Octane button helps and after that next render go fine.
