I think I have a sort of same approach, I did a vertex color test to houdini as well and posted it on the forum.

Yes but we need stable .csv for octane standalone. This is pretty handy and straightforward in our workflow with scripting all the boring stuff, no more need of Houdini[/quo

Got a lot of CUDA 700 errors on the slave PC when I went from "Max. tile samples" 1 to "Max. tile samples" 64 while rendering. Denoiser was off.

HEY GUYS !!!!

I don't know if you know this but you have JUST KILLED XB3 for like .... EVERYONE ON THE PLANET. All across the world tonight there are people saying FUCK !!! Because I have a rendering deadline for tomorrow and all of a sudden my 3dsmax shuts down and then when it restarts I am totally locked out of OCTANE because you decided that XB4 is out, so we will just go ahead and kill XB3......... great move !!

PLEASE PUT BACK THE LICENCE AUTHORIZATION FOR XB3 NOW !!

As with all experimental and test releases, please do not use this build for production work, and please note that we still classify this as an experimental release. We cannot guarantee that scenes saved with this version would be compatible with future releases.

Only 1 problem with AI lights - they seem to generate fireflies that are stronger than normal, cannot be removed by the HotPixel Remover, making them a "Do I want artifacts-or-not-on/off" decision.
Some scenes have to turn AI light off because of the more intense fireflies.

UPDATE - You know, I think these AI light fireflies are actually reflections of multiple emitter lights in the scene, but somehow they appear on Diffuse materials as well.

UPDATE 2 - Yeah, they are! I reduced Opacity on the material and the 'fireflies' were no longer there. They are appearing on Diffuse items in the scene, in a very sharp and pronounced way...

There's a huge warning at the very beginning: don't use XB* for production. It's 'B' for a reason.

I see many issues in the Universal Material :
- The "Roughness" attribute doesn't change the Diffuse Roughness as expected.
- When "fake shadows" is enabled , shadows are transparent even if there's no transmission = opaque material.
- There is a bug in the transmission with Beckmann and GGX bsdf when IOR is 1 (this bug is also in the simple "specular" material).
- The "octane" bsdf have an issue, that prevent to get a clear glass.
- The base color should not influence the Transmission color , if we need color in transmission we can just plug a color in the "transmission" pin.
- Diffuse Transmission is missing, maybe the Specular attribute should drive it : from Diffuse Transmission (specular = 0) to Specular Transmission (specular=1),
else we need yet another transmission property.
