Recently uploaded materials are always shown like that. The Thumbnails will be displayed automatically by the system, but it requires some time. But your Matrial only shows an X in the Preview of the database. Why is that with some materials? BTW i use 1.17

I would never have the need to do Gold.. almost certainly...
But damn, that is the most realistic 3D gold I have ever seen.. for sure..
Nice job Roeland!
I am curious if you guys use math/science to nail down surface settings - or do
you just eyeball it - until it is utterly perfect?.. please do tell.

Everybody who is calling for "physically based" magic tables: It would be a lot of work to integrate nk-tables into Octane for absolutely no benefit. They hardly look any better than manually set up materials using a falloff and matching colors. The major disadvantage of them is that they give you absolutely no flexibility and in the case of gold you would need dozens of different look up tables, because there are so many variations out there.
We should rather focus more on improving the live material database.

And having a way for plugins to Access them (Lightwave for example)abstrax wrote:We should rather focus more on improving the live material database.

I totally agree. With such an interactive render it is easy to setup materials without need of scientific data. They hardly look any better than manually set up materials using a falloff and matching colors.

thanksWe didn't state any times for any upcoming features and especially not for motion blur and we will keep it that way. Partially because we don't want to tell, partially because we don't know.
lol, thanks abstrax
Actually it wasn't direct from Octane but an article on FX guide that said motion blur would be middle of the year... So yeh I took it with a pinch of salt
