Looks like Houdini engine will work in C4D, which would potentially allow a short term method to use Houdini+Octane via C4D.

Sure
That means: buy Houdini, Cinema plus OctaneC4D and rent the Houdini Engine to render in Cinema
The upcoming plugin is a oneway thing that doesn't make much sense to me without owning Houdini.

| Win 10 | 64 GB RAM | AMD 5900X | RTX 3080 12 GB| C4D 21| C4Doctane v2022.1.1|
We'll keep looking into this.
Nobody else is working in the Houdini plugin? ... could be a nice project for me to learn Houdini and it's HDK, but the problem is that you need a full Houdini license (4500$ + 2500$ anual plan) to develop external render engines plugins and test it with all the Houdini features, and this plugins should be written in Python using the SOHO architecture.

Otoy should start concentrating on Houdini as well. It will again more user base as Autodesk is in bad spotlight due to murder of XSI (which they say they won't do it). As arnold render is already in dev for houdini and GPU based arnold in future.

I would suggest to focus on Houdini seriously, at the current rate of adoption it would be foolish to ignore.
