Cinema 4D version 2018.1.3-R5 (Latest stable) - 07.10.2019
Moderators: ChrisHekman, aoktar
Specs: Apple MacBook Pro M1 max 64GB 2TB, MacOS 12.5 / MacPro 5,1 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8G, MacOS 10.13.6 / Mac Pro 5,1 with AMD RX5700 8G, MacOS 12.3.1 / HP Z600 with NVIDIA 3060 RTX 12G, Windows 10 pro + Netstor GPU box, 4 x NVIDIA GTX 980ti 6G.
You looks like having textures In NAS or network location. Could you try to collect scene/assets to a local path and work?3dworks wrote:could you find out anything about this yet? it's unfortunately making preview times very long here...3dworks wrote:ok, i could track it after working a while on the scene. when first using the live viewer time was normally fast - and the last time i re-opened the live viewer it took a really long time... see attachment. hope this helps track it down...aoktar wrote:Activate all options of log output from settings/others and wait until same issue appeared. all my textures are local, in my "tex" folder. if i first run octane, it is always very fast. maybe something makes octane believe it is on another location?aoktar wrote: You looks like having textures In NAS or network location. Could you try to collect scene/assets to a local path and work?

just to make it clear: all textures are on a local tex folder. the path is to a SSD RAID wich is actually directly fitted into my mac workstation, no external NAS drive!aoktar wrote: You looks like having textures In NAS or network location. Hi aoktar,
I see that this version has support for Cinema 4D's LOD object. I am using it, but the "Use LOD 0 for Rendering" checkbox in the Options tab does not seem to work. This feature is very useful for cases where all Viewport geometry is low poly and only Octane will get the high poly models.
My current setup does work with Cinema 4D's renderers.
Thank you.

Just dropping a note for someone else, It's working as I said in a different topic. But parameter is active for rendering and LV is based on viewport geometry data and you can't see the same result. Expected result will be seen in Picture Viewer.blastframe wrote:Hi aoktar,

i didn't get any feedback from you for some time, but this issue was really making work with octane almost impossible for larger commercial projects. i was about to give it up and look for other engines, but finally found out that the "texture cache" function might be the problem.aoktar wrote:You looks like having textures In NAS or network location. when "use texture caching" in "other" settings is enabled, the live viewer build in my current project scene is more than 5 minutes (!) when restarting the render. if i disable it, previews will be always fast as the first one and about 20 seconds. all my textures are directly acessible in local folder "tex", no NAS or remote acesses. seems to be a bug in cinema or in your code. can you please investigate about it? i'm happy to supply scenes etc.

I was off by summer vacation time by time. I don't have problems with "use texture caching". Probably because I don't make extreme scenes with heavy texturing. Use it disabled if solves. It actually stores all used textures in memory and can cause out-of-memory or windows caching. So can slow down the things. Anyway provide some extra information/scene to me by PM.3dworks wrote: i didn't get any feedback from you for some time, but this issue was really making work with octane almost impossible for larger commercial projects. i was about to give it up and look for other engines, but finally found out that the "texture cache" function might be the problem.

unfortunatley, it was not the solution to switch this option off. after working more today on the same scene again, i got the same slow down, even with the option set to off. when sending to live viewer, there is again the orange status line about "check: 7ms/8ms. mats movable:0 txcached:0" and second line: "export materials convert mat: xxxx" - and each material will take about 5/7 seconds. i will provide scene and logs and maybe a screen recording later this week and send it to you as PM. thanks for caring.aoktar wrote:I was off by summer vacation time by time. i am also increasingly having another issue in my latest project. when i am editing a material in the node editor, i often get C4D hanging while editing a node. i am only using the node editor because used to it, never do wediting in the layered material mode. when i am schanging a node or applying to a material tag, the beachball starts to spin and usually i get aplugi status like the the screenshots.
last operation was to create a blend material, but it also happens when simply editing a texture connection of existing node or just dragging a node to a tag.
i did disable octane/ opengl previews in viewport and node editor to check if is will help, but it does not change crash behavior.
any tip what i could do to to get less crashes? since i am working on the latest project i cannot edit nodes without crashing every 5/10 minutes.
here all my octane settings as screenshots, maybe i'm doing something wrong?
