I think its more supporting first
production = FBX
users in smaller studios = Collada
open source users = Collada
Both formats are important
Both formats will bring more users for Octane
So yes the fastest to implement the better
Because in the end the two gonna be implemented
You can't ignore FBX users and you can't ignore Collada users

not according to radiance's statement:Sam wrote: Because in the end the two gonna be implemented
"so i'm going to add either Autodesk FBX (seems to be my choice at the moment) or Collada"
It doesn't seem to imply both are going to be added/implemented. Feel free to correct me on that radiance and i would say talk to programmers about Collada/FBX, get their opinions on the subject.
One of the reason for wanting to buy Octane beta is the quoted support of the Collada file format on the "features" page, i always bad experience with the FBX file from a user stand point, not so much with Collada 1.4.
I'd like to start with one of both and maybe add the other later.
But i'm not going to start on the 2nd before the RIB and first one are %100 working first,
and that's already enough for the coming months...

True but we vote for wich one we need the most in priorityso i'm going to add either Autodesk FBX (seems to be my choice at the moment) or Collada
Radiance doesn't say there's not gonna be both, he just need us to choose the priority one
Edit: Radiance just reply'ed exactly how I thought he would reply

tomorrow when i have some extra time free i'm going to get the polls working again (they broke after i installed this theme),
and set up a propper poll.
then we can see what's the most popular.

Considering the price point of Octane, I would imagine Collada is more useful to potential customers. Big studios have likely been absorbed into the Autodesk borg and use FBX, but is Octane really capable of going toe to toe with more established renderers that are likely already in those larger studios? I'm not saying that you shouldn't aim high and try to get some big fish, and I think Octane is really cool, but is v.1x going to be at that level of competition? Personally, I think you should wait for FBX on version 2 when the feature set is a little deeper.
Waiting to the poll, you can chose the best format or just get info about your favorite one
reading the specifications of each one.
Last Collada version is 1.5 :

Harder to read but very complete :
