Rikk The Gaijin wrote:I see you point, but can't you just add a new window dedicated to animation, with all the needed buttons there? Something like Maya does for the different areas, modeling, animations, dynamics, etc, so the interface doesn't become too crowded, it just changes based on what you need. And possibly make the windows detachable, so we can move them to a second screen.
hi rikk,
trust me, lua script is a neat powerfull and flexible solution for expanding the octane functionality ;)
you don't need to dirt your hands with code if you don't want, you just need to create a directory for lua scripts and set it in the octane preferences.
octane team and other talented users are preparing very interesting and powerful scripts, you need only to save them in the lua directory and call them via script menu.
if necessary, the script could have an interface with extra window where you can easy setup the things ;)
we are in beta stage and the things must be refined, but for me is a very good way to go for the future ;)

just an example of what grimm is doing:

ciao beppe

Hello all.

That looks great mate.
For those who dont understand anything about script, a list of lua scrips with the most commun aplications would be great. Or most of the feutures of SA will be locked to users with low script knowledge.

cheers
and thx for the hard work.

Hi,

No worries, we're making a collection of scripts available in the future (likely via the LiveDB). Right now it's still beta and there aren't enough scripts to go around yet. But be patient, even users that can't program will benefit a lot from this.

cheers,
Thomas

Decent scripting with access to all functions is the best thing possible for any app. But you could also make the ui entirely configurable through ini files etc, past the current possibilities (simple mode) and provide advanced mode with as many buttons and menus anyone wants... ;-)

Anyone had a look to see what's happening here? Please, pretty please?

1. Awesome work guys: the alembic scale preferences is exactly what is needed to scale things correctly. Thanks.
2. There's a problem with texturing when applied to alembic files.
In the first case if you apply a diffuse texture to the alembic file with a bitmap texture applied it comes out black. If you use a SSS material like for example kayze's skin it comes out honey colored. For reference you can see what it's supposed to look like when applied to an .OBJ model with the same materials applied at the same scale.

I have included a compressed .rar file of the appropriate files so you can test.

Congratulations !
Just wanna say thanks for this robust and fast 1.24 Pré-release
with Alembic support, and for fixing the 1.23 bugs.
Didn't try to render an animated Alembic scene though,
I know it is possible via Lua script, and guess I'll have to get familiar with it,
there are some tips in the forum , and thank you for that too. ;)

Hi there,

We suggest you use the 1.31 release candidate which you can find here: http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=38175. It contains lots of bugfixes and improvements compared to 1.24.

1.24 is obsolete now.

cheers,
Thomas

Thank you .
I am already using 3.1
I am also having no problem with Lua script ,it is very straight foward and easy to use.
I am importing Alembic geometry and Camera and even materials without any problem.
My only drawback is to keep the imported alembic camera parameters consisted with the original aplication (3ds max 2014)
because it is a matchmoved camera. Any tip will be apreciated.
and also when I change the resolution from the default to my original aplication (3ds max 2014)
which is 2048x1552,i am afraid it messes with camera parameters too.
