Its got a 'nose'...
No nose!
The nose is out.

I think I killed something beautiful with my imagination  :?

sorry guys, but i've been very busy coding and there's now heaps of posts everywhere with this ball.

is it finished ?
Not exactly, im currently working with Chris on it. There's some work to do but we are at 75% percent done
Do you have any Date when you need the material ball to hardcode so we can do more subtle work on it?
Or the soon the better?

if it is, can someone send me the final version ? as a obj+mtl ?
Im gonna send you, when finished the final version in OBJ in various settings (tris only, quads + tris, ngons and various mesh density)
The .mtl will be included :)

so i can clean it up and add it to octane ?
Ok (you speak about cleaning polygons right?)

i need the object, without the 'nose'
Im sorry but I love the nose.... Im joking :) Test renders with the nose is only because Chris and me laugh about it :D
on a slope floor (like chsphere: http://images.google.be/images?q=cgsphe ... =nl&tab=wi)
Already done ! The slope is 99% the same, I redraw it from a left viewport screenshot of CGSphere

the inside ball and footpiece need to be a lightgrey plastic.
The .mtl you gonna have gonna be default white, you gonna need to change the color, is that ok for you?

and the cornell box also
Wich one ? Everyone ? Ok but im currently busy on the sphere also, can you wait a little ?

i think the scene is good but:

- lose the 'nose', it makes it look a bit silly
Its just a joke between Chris and me, we removed the nose already :)
- the footpiece (eg cylinder that's on the floor) it too wide. maybe remove the outer rim and reduce the outer rim diameter of the grey piece of plastic.
Ok but don't forget that the camera angle is also making optical illusions, look this picture http://i45.tinypic.com/vcqfev.jpg it seem less wide and there's only .25cm difference

the current dimensions are a bit off,
the support/footpiece is too large.
Working on it

What do you want exactly for grid on the floor (size of the grid etc.. do we put cm in it ?)
Also notice that camera angle is not final in the renderings, if you got specific camera data send us and Chris will change his camera settings.

Update:

Rendered in Octane, lit by a hdri.
Camera angle, floor grid and footpiece are not final.
Radiance, the middle plate is different from the first image (image at the bottom), wich do you think look best?

Yes the bloody nose is gone! :P

looks good but i'd remove that outer rim on the blue 'floor/stand' ring piece.
it's just too wide...

btw,
how many triangles is the scene ?

we should try to keep it as low as possible but still get nice smooth geometry...

Scene currently have 89900 polys, Sam will optimize it

Can you read every message before posting because im already fighting with Chris on skype to not post at the same time he post so we can keep the topic clean. Its hard to work if not everyone read what is posted at the time they reply

Ill remove the rim on the blue ring no problems.

how many triangles is the scene ?
A lot because the model is not finished so we are not using optimized model because it would take time to optimize it at every little change.

Chris and I will do all we can to optimize the scene even if we need to do some parts by hand

The current model we use is always the same settings (1 triangle per 3° angle and no triangles less than .1cm size)
We are not using quads or NGONS
Its just for testing purpose, its not the final model

also,

don't forget that it has to have a good UV mapping too :)

Yes Chris gonna do the UV because I suck at UV
But before that, we gonna need to wait everything is validated by you
And then we gonna optimize the mesh
And then Chris gonna work on the UV

And probably there's gonna be changes to do and everything (optimize and UV) gonna need to be done again

@Radiance
Can you make a choice between ?

First
Image

Second
Image

Only look at the part I highlighted in red

I like the second one because we can write the "Octane render" words on the green line
