Sure it doesn't effect the dof?

Thanks for the new development.
The new builds still don't address the severe slowdown of maxwell based cards when there are displacements in the scene.
Its(maxwell 750gt ti) rendering at the speed of gfx cards(gt430,gt640) which are a few generations behind with a lot lower specs. Wondering if it affects other maxwell based cards regarding displacements.

It affects all GPUs not just Maxwell and for now we couldn't find a solution.

Anyway, I have written a little Lua node graph that emulates the old behaviour. You can find it here: http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=43944
actually yes. if you're comping renders into photo/film, you'll likely know the focal lengths, f-stop, iso, shutter speed and exact positioning of the camera that the photo/film was shot with. much easier/exact/quicker to type those 4 numbers in rather than eyeballing it.

although not everybody will use this preciseness, i'm sure there are situations where not having this ability would prevent a studio from choosing to use octane on a project.

Ah I wasn't aware of that. I was testing some of the sample scenes and the drop in render speed with maxwell card was extreme with displacements in the scene.

430gt
grass scene sample .34 ms
benchmark sample .66 ms

640gt
grass scene sample .36 ms
benchmark sample 1.05 ms

750gt ti
grass scene sample .38 ms (extreme dropoff)
benchmark sample 3.15 ms

I assumed my 430gt and 640gt wasn't affected much.

You're right, the f-stop affects depth of field in a real camera.

But we were talking about Octane, and the f-stop didn't affect the depth of field (and so I had no issue in this being removed).

Yes, that was a confusion for me when first time playing with the dof in octane.

:? Geo, you are aware that even a single GTX 480 would smoke your three GPUs combined, right? Not picking on you. I was just under the impression that you were working at a certain level - and these wimps tell a different story. You should pick up a 580 or something on eBay. No one working in Octane (even a hobbyist) should be using anything less than 70s or 80s...
