Hello Paul,

I revisited the HDRI map orientation issue...

Please take a look at the attached images, I think after rotating the image by 90 deg the importance sampling is somehow turned off (despite the fact that the button still shows "enabled")see pic2

after turning importance sampling off and then imediately on again, it seems to work as expected (see pict 3)...

initial Situation:
HDRIBUG-A.JPG

Hdri map turned 90 deg - Contrast is low...:
HDRIBUG-B.JPG
Same situation after briefly turning importance sampling of and the on again - contrast ratio is as expected:
HDRIBUG-C.JPG

can you confirm this?

best

Andreas

Thanks Andreas

I will look into the duplicates when doing the 1.29 release, which will be soon. 1.29 also fixes some issues with LiveDb materials, and hopefully helps address the bluescreen crashes, and most probably fixes the HDRI rotation problem.

And yes - that is the same HDRI problem people have reported with other plugins on the 1.25 version of Octane - so it is a know issue, resolved with 1.29.

I have refreshed the installer at the top of this thread. This build is intended to rectify the IBL importance sampling issue, the "out of memory" issues, and the bluescreens that people have experienced with the previous build.

1.29.0.7
- Compiled against Octane 1.29 - which should resolve some LiveDb and crashing issues
- Resolved issue where layers with the same material where resulting in duplicate materials being created in the Convert All Materials To Octane Materials process
- Significantly improved the detection of "out of memory" issues.
- Added White Balance color picking
- There are now separate cursors for focus, material and white balance color picking
- IMPORTANT: In order to ensure downloading of LiveDb materials is working correctly, pls delete all files in the following directory:
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\OctaneRender\cache

I am having some trouble with slow responses compared with the stand alone version. It is a lot jumpier and hard to control the view.
I have a new medium video card (Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760) with 4 gigs. Is there anything I can do to improve this short of a newer card?
thanks,
eric

Do you mean when editing materials or moving the camera?
Are you using your on-board graphics are your Windows display adapter?

Thanks Paul ...

That fixed it (the problem with the slow view action ... not materials). I had the priority set to 'high' but when I switched to 'low' everything moves very quickly and smoothly. Just starting to feel my way around with this.

cheers,
eric

Everything runs so much better if you use your onboard (or another) graphic card as your Windows display adapter. I can't recommend it highly enough! No need to throttle back your rendering speed then.

Hi Paul ...

I am not very technically oriented though I usually get by.

When I assembled the computer a few years ago I installed an inexpensive GT 9800 video card that worked fine until I started to get a little way into larger renders with Octane. When it would not run Octane for Rhino I replaced the card with a GeForce GTX 760. I gather from what you say that I could have left the GT 9800 in the system and added the new one just for Octane ??? Leaving the original one just for everyday stuff ???

Is there some printed information available about what settings to use to accomplish this? I would happily put the old card back in if I had some instructions on how to set this up.

cheers,
eric

Hi Eric

Check if your motherboard has an on-board graphics card (check the manual, google, or just check if there is a monitor output plugin on the back of your PC connected to the motherboard and not your graphics card). If you have on-board graphics, just plugin your monitor into it. You may need to change a BIOS setting for this (the bios setting which enables on-board graphics even when you have a video card installed).

If no on-board graphics - yes, you can install your GT 9800 as a second card and select it as your Windows display adapter. Disable it (in the plugin Device tab) for Octane rendering. Turn off SLI (in the Nvidia controller settings).

All the above require some technical proficiency - so embark on it at your own risk :-)
