The Spam is driving me nuts!!
I don't know how you moderator guys keep going on, I would return my sheriff badge to RS a long time ago. It would be understandable if help was needed for a month or two, until RS does the most needed patches, but this spam-fest-orgy is going on forever now...

I don't know if this is difficult to implement but we should insert a
"approve first post of unregistered user by moderator" function
"approve first post of unregistered user by moderator" function
Today I visited the forums and using the 'view new posts' button I got 3 pages of spam posts and 3 Octane related posts. It is completely unsatisfactory for a business to have this digital faeces smeared everywhere, however it is fairly easy to fix, so Refractive guys please do something about it.
Perhaps you want to be known as a joke operation?

We have a captcha for registration, but the problem is that some bots are better at solving these than humansJimStar wrote:Good captcha by post submitting may be enough IMHO. Anyway it must be the first that should be made here...

I have switched on moderation for new users, so the first post of any user requires approval from a moderator. This will at least prevent spam from showing up on the forum, rendering it ineffective. I will leave it on for a while and see what happens.

a first measure which will of course help. by the way, did you know that the default phpbb captcha was cracked long time ago? if this is, what you use for the forum, it won't keep any bot out these days...roeland wrote:I have switched on moderation for new users, so the first post of any user requires approval from a moderator. ps: it would also be a good idea the clean the user db, at least the moment, when effective measures hold new bots back from registering, because there are thousands (literally) of potential spammers already in there; typical profile: 0 posts, never logged on since joining, funny homepage addresses or full filled out user profiles ... not hard to check. filtering and sorting db tables the right way it would be possible to delete them within hours...

The key word was good captcha.roeland wrote:We have a captcha for registration, but the problem is that some bots are better at solving these than humans.
And some configurable questions, as bb3d wrote HERE may be good too. I just look at another sites as an example: a lot of forums work without premoderation and have no such amount of spam...
IMHO...
PS. I am ashamed, that a lot of this spam here comes from Russia...
Strange, I don't see any "first post premoderation"... I still see a lot of spam posts, as this one: http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum ... 21&t=14653
