Hi Aoktar,

Thanks for the quick response, maybe that was a bad example scene. I have replicated the problem using a new scene with only a cube and octane daylight.

Same thing happens - Render to picture viewer fails unless I render in live viewer first. I've added screen grabs of the 3 steps I have to take to render to picture viewer.

Thanks for any help.

joecurrie,
Can you check the gpus are activated before render?

Hi,

How do I check they are activated? they are ticked on in the devices panel. Or is there another way to check if they are activated?

Another weird thing is as soon as I open C4D I get the same error pop up in the log even when I haven't pressed render on either the live viewer or picture viewer, does octane do a startup check or something when opening C4d? -

I've been searching for articles related to the error - "device 0: can't bind to render thread (0x0) in scope of other thread" but can't find anything about it.

thanks for your help.

In settings->devices. They should be selected. Btw do you have network clients or selected network render in somewhere? Looks like first error about wrong subnet settings. Second seems like devices are not activated. But we have some controls to activate before rendering.

Ok, there are two issues here:

This warning you get when an incorrect sub-net is configured in the network settings. To fix it, open the network settings dialog and disable network rendering. If you want to use network rendering, configure the correct sub-net and enable network rendering again.

This one is weird. It looks between a race condition between starting and stopping the render threads. When do you get these error messages? During startup of the plugin or when you start rendering? What is the device configuration in the plugin?

Hi thanks for the speedy help so far guys appreciate it!

Both GPUs are selected in settings->devices.

980 ti - On - Priority
980- On

I have tried both individually and get the same "can't bind to render thread (0x0) in scope of other thread "

I haven't set up or used any network render/clients before. I will try with internet off tomorrow, check the network render settings are off and report back. Could there be anything else I need to activate? It seems weird that it loads to the live viewer ok and then only renders in picture viewer whilst I have live viewer rendering/paused, is it something to do with loading into film buffer differently with live viewer? Maybe I should experiment with something in kernel settings?

It happens as soon as I start the plugin or render something, when rendering to live viewer this error pops up first but then starts rendering. When rendering to Picture viewer if the scene is not loaded into live viewer it gives this error and render failed.

joecurrie,
Can you make a test with same very simple box scene to reproduce error? Here is a text file "octane_log_flags.txt". It will produce some log output for us. Please put it to folder where is the Cinema4D executable. And try to generate same errors. Then find the generated "octane_log.txt" file and post here please. It can give more idea.

Network rendering doesn't have anything to do with Internet. It uses the local network only, which you need to configure in the net render settings. If you don't use it, just disable it.

I can't believe how fast volumes render, it's amazing.
I'm running into an issue though, I'm getting a position wobble in these new versions with Houdini VDB's, I thought this was fixed in previous versions?

Thanks
This is most likely due to a bug that has just been fixed in Octane - there was an issue when importing VDBs with origins very far from the origin. Bear with us while we make the next release ready.
Thanks haze!
