I want this function is primarily to the fact that we eventually begin a major project-length film Half Life. created scenery, costumes. renderer we stopped for octane, but we need a fake GI for direct lighting or we 5 years will render it

Five years rendeing is ideal. In the meantime, you can gradually replace the hardware.

If you would like something added to the DL, but with the option to disable/enable.
That the possibility of a scene type, use the settings. Otherwise it could happen that would slow down the DL and it would not be good.

it would be nice to have an option for disabling the AO for specular materials only but i don't know if it's actually technically possible with one single obj mash
ciao beppe

AmbientOcclusion is good,i would not turn off.. This is a "Fake GI", or perhaps a light transmission of the alpha channel...etc.buttons.bepeg4d wrote:it would be nice to have an option for disabling the AO for specular materials only but i don't know if it's actually technically possible with one single obj mash![]()

Actually, the DL system is already very good and fast. If only they added a few extra buttons, it would be perfect, but each would be good to use the system, according to the scene. On.../Off....
Octane is a perfect rendering product that is applicable to both static (long) renders, as well as animation.
Let's see what the future holds, but now with improved Octane very well and is usable.
I feel at home there.

If there was not the AO, so it's completely f*cked up

sorry but i think you have misunderstood my post, obviously ao is the base of direct lighting and it's very good and super fast but actually is applied on all the mash indifferently and this is not good for transparent materials. in my opinion it would be very good if we could disable the ao for some materials.Method wrote:If there was not the AO, so it's completely f*cked up

It would be awesome if ao had color bleeding like in Renderman... And the transparency thing bepeg mentioned would be great!

ehm, are you all talking about an unbiased or biased render engine? what are the terms such as "ambient occlusion" and so on?
sorry, but i can't resist..

What is the differential of the Octane?
Speed!
The pathtracing is slow! Slow as in all other unbiased renderers!
Your customer is patient? It can accept and expect 10, 15, 24 hours for a render? You're in love with unbiased renders?
Great! You have already heard of Maxwell, fryrender, indigo, lux, Thea?
Someone here bought this software for its ability to render in pathtracing?
No. Definitely not.
99% of people have heard it is fast (look for octane on google and you will see several videos ... all in Directlight mode!) and bought accordingly. All his fame is due to the direclight mode!
I believe it is important to implement a global illumination in direct light. Can and should be biased because the most important is speed.
Radiance could give their opinion.
