Hi Karba..

Object is a simple 3dsmax plane, has uv coordinates..when i put rgb image on diffuse button, the texture appears normally.

when i put a gradient texture 1st in the diffuse and then an rgb image as input of the gradient texture, this rgb turns grayscale uniformly along the object, because of black and white of gradient, but if i put a red color on the black flag, the whole obejct turns reddish, with no transition to the 2nd flag which is white.

please see attached images.

the colored one is a simple rgb image applied to the diffuse button.

the grey one is the gradient on diffuse, with rgb as input of the gradient.

I thing it is because your texture is to dark, so it mostly left area with red flag.
Try to insert some extra flags closer to left area.

Karba i think not...see pic called red.jpg

Also another problem im seeing is with the dirt texture...the dirt does not stay LOCKED to the object.

I tried making a box (uv), added a mix material with 2 diffuse, on material 1 is just a reddish color, on material 2 is a metal rusted texture, i applied in the amount button a dirt texture, i can see the effect on the render window..when i move the object up or any other way, the texture does not move with it it stays like in its absolute space, not object space, i would think that when u rotate/move the object the affected part of the dirt texture would move with it..but it doesnt,,is this normal?

box01.jpg u can see the dirt texture affecting the box, box02.jpg i lift the box up and dirt texture "stays" in the initial position.

What are you trying to achieve with gradient texture?

Well i would think that i could for example, use it to tint an object "progressively", like in this example, the plane would be reddish on the left but normal rgb image on the right..

or like a normal opaciy map for example, have the dark part of the gradient make the object transparent and the white opaque, but even if i put the gradient texture on opacity, i cant do this...

Thanks Karba for this great release.

- I too cant work it out, the gradient texture. I kinda can do that gradient in standalone. But not with max. A simple example scene would be great.

- Camera blur doesn't work correctly as Suvakas noted. It applies stong vertical blur even the camera has no animation.

- Clay mode is great but it would really be great if could change that Clay material of choice.
For reflective scenes I usually work with glossy clay materials. It would be really great to test if my reflection planes or HDRI positioning...
Doing that manually really does kill my workflow and time. I have to go Back and forth through file saves. It would be great if you think of changing this.

- I like the feature of possibility to set value for grayscale texures >1
But We can also increase the value of specular value and diffuse value > 1 of any Glossy or Diffuse material. Does it make sense? Wouldn't it be better if you but a limit this?

Thanks.

Hi Oguzbir...

Nice to know im not the only trying to figure out how to use the gradient texture :).

I agree about the clay color and properties, would be great.

a max scene would help in trying to understand gradient, if/when u can please Karba.

Great news that the 1.5 is finally here.

Having some trouble with motion blur though:
