I had the same feeling, even I wrote an e-mail to the Refractive Software time ago before I bought Octane Render asking for the security method cause I felt it wasn't right to have an internet connection and all the dependency from a thirds persons, and what did change my mind was the same forum thread, but right now you are saying you're not going to change the security system, so I found this to not be fair with your costumers, we are to pirates, we are YOUR costumers and we deserve a friendly software.dave62 wrote:quoted: "* We are developing a new secure solution to enable mobile use of OctaneRender® v1.0+, without the requirement of an internet connection."

I don't know data amount... but with my connection mobile (EDGE not UMTS-HDSPA) very poor, the octane is very slow to start program and very very slow to start renderingjamnique wrote:A quick question: how much data does it take to check with Octane Live servers per hour? Please in the future fix this problem!!!

Hey, thanks a lot, you gave me an excellent idea i haven't thought about at all. Using your mobile phone as a modem for internet connection should allow you to use Octane almost everywhere and avoid dodgy internet problems.john_petrucci wrote:I don't know data amount... but with my connection mobile (EDGE not UMTS-HDSPA) very poor, the octane is very slow to start program and very very slow to start renderingjamnique wrote:A quick question: how much data does it take to check with Octane Live servers per hour? Please, stop complaining about licensing and let Octane team to continue developing this great software without any stress. I haven't single issue with activating account and/or interrupted renders and i am pretty happy with it as it is and i can imagine what benefits it will bring to us, customers, in close future.
One more thing, if your work is so important and deadlines tight, why don't you invest some money for more reliable and faster internet connection?

Well it isn't just a matter of weather you want to invest or not. Often it's simply a matter of not having a choice. It's much worse in small towns than in big cities, but even there some areas have limited web accessibility and reliable providers and connections are hard to find. At work and at home i haven't had any problems with Octane Live whatsoever, but since i am traveling now and can't access the web 24/7 i'm starting to realize how limiting it can be to rely on internet connection.carbon wrote:Please, stop complaining about licensing and let Octane team to continue developing this great software without any stress. Fortunately smart people estimate that in five years everybody will have access to mobile internet. It would be nice to have an alternative licensing method, but i would rather have Octane alive for a long time than accessible anytime and dead in a year

I think that this licensing topic is deflecting attention from a more important issue. When is the Linux build coming out? Any indications?
FWIW, the licensing option Refractive have chosen might be problematic for some, but for the majority, clearly it works seamlessly and keeps the company afloat. Furthermore, it is detracting from the overall development if we get bogged down in the issue. Far more important for the moment is to sort out the usability issues and make it work the same way twice in a row.

Hello everybody
I used to work on a scene (OBJ.) with version 2.3 V5. The GPU memory read as 638.6/997 MB. If I open the same scene with version 2.42, the GPU memory reads as 743.9/997 MB and I only get a black screen in the render viewport (on my system, any scene over 700 MB either freezes or crashes Octane, or gives me a black screen in render viewport). How can it be explained that the same scene takes more GPU memory with the newer version? I did update to the latest NVidia driver for my FX 3800 card. Thanks

I just want to know if they're going to keep the promise.
