Would have been nice to know this before I signed up for a year subscription only to find out you don't support the OS any more???? Pretty pissed off about this.

As Beppe stated, the last supported version of Octane for High Sierra is 2020.2.5. There's been more than enough time since at least Mojave and Catalina to know that CUDA support wasn't coming back to macOS; the issue isn't with OTOY. Personally, I'm surprised that OTOY have been able to go so far with supporting High Sierra instead of ending it at Octane v4. I'm not sure if you know, but the latest version(s) of Octane require the newer Metal API(s) only available in the latest version(s) of macOS, as far as I know. This news has been around for at least 2 years; it's not a secret.
The multi-channels of the R7 version of C4D are very difficult to use. I need to click one more frequently to open the sub-menu. The function of the sub-menu is not as convenient as the previous slider control. I hope to return to the previous operation.

Thanks for that reply that says you personally are surprised support continued after v4 has nothing to do with the state of the industry. Many artists still use High Sierra and EGPUs, including some Emmy Award winning artists. And the metal versions that were around "2 years" ago were XB versions, flaky, and slow, and Otoy on metal hasn't been a serious option until very very recently.
CUDA functions on High Sierra just fine, and I haven't seen any posts pointing out what there in new CUDA versions that Octane relies on, that means it's unable to run on the older High Sierra CUDA. If someone did know, or could direct to a post explaining it, perhaps that would add to the conversation.
Redshift is (for now) still working on High Sierra. And yes, I'm aware they will soon stop supporting it. But if RS could do it through all of 2021 into 2022 I would have thought Otoy could do it too.
I'd love to know how many people are running Octane on Metal or M1 macs vs older Macs, and surely people at Otoy would have those stats from the logins?
Also, where do we look to see Octane Bench scores for various AMD cards and M1 macs?

Anyway, the latest GPU family you can use under High Sierra is Pascal, so no Turing or Ampere GPUs.
There is no future for Mac CUDA, without Nvidia support, that's it.
Latest AMD GPUs are over performing Nvidia Pascal GPUs, and are very close to Nvidia Ampere performance.

Also, are there more recent results than the May 2021 post you just linked to.
The AMD cards may be getting close to Nvidia but you need a $20,000 Mac Pro to run the cards. Or a 2nd-hand old laptop? As far as I can see, AMD eGPUS don't work on any new Mac that's M1 and that's pretty much all of them.
I thought it was a valid question to ask what is it in PC Cuda that means Octane 2021 can't work on Mac. What is Mac Cuda missing? Is that detailed somewhere in that 100-page thread for Octane X? Why is that thread 100 pages long?? Why isn't there an easy to find link that summarises expected performance on various Macs? I expected that by subscribing I'd be able to get back up to date, so yes I am posting in this thread. At least if there was a current version of Octane on Mac for 2021 I could get by another 6months to 1 year, as I'd be able to do with Redshift as current versions are indeed on High Sierra CUDA. They could do it but Otoy can't?
Or is this just another example of the "thanks for playing, now go away" mentality described on the last page of that 101-page Mac thread. Actually there's also a semi-admission on page 100 that by 2023 possibly only Macs Pre-M1 will be supported? So if we go and buy an M1 we're being led up the garden path again...

when both Metal and CUDA will work on the same SDK, with upcoming 2022.1 version, there will be an OctaneBench version that supports both Metal and CUDA.
For now we can do only manual benchmarks for comparison.
Any AMD GPU can be used via eGPU + Thunderbolt 3 port on any Intel Mac, not only Mac Pro.
I have a Mac Mini i5 with AMD RX 6900 XT eGPU that works perfectly in both Big Sur and Monterey.
Let's say in another way... Apple and Nvidia are no more collaborating from a long time now, Mac CUDA is not updated from 2017, you cannot install recent GPUs, or install the necessary macOS 10.13 version on Mac from 2018 or newer.
You are forced to use Bootcamp/Win 10 with recent Intel Macs.
Two possibilities:
1. stop to support Mac, and concentrate only on CUDA Windows/Linux
2. try to find another way to maintain the Mac support
So to find a new way, it was necessary to remove the support for Mac CUDA, to free up Octane SDK for 2021.1, and introduce the Mac Metal support, then include both in the upcoming 2022.1 SDK.
We are almost there, but in between, Apple as introduced the Apple Silicon GPUs, adding a new level of complexity to the equation.
M1 chip is completely different from previous machines, since CPU, RAM, GPU are fused in a unique block.
This allows incredible speed communications between the parts, at a fraction of the energie power necessary in a normal machine with separated components.
But because of this, working with eGPU would break the fast connection, so it is not allowed.
It is not clear now how Apple will handle future Mx Pro machines, scalability is very important for GPUs, not only for Octane, but also for BlackMagic, for example, so let's see.
To recap, 2021.1 development is finished, so impossible to have a Mac CUDA version, the new development is concentrated on new 2022.1 with both CUDA and Metal in the same SDK.

Trying to get a bump with Dirt node on material, along the edge of other intersecting objects (straight or through Gradient or MixTex nodes) with no effect. Tried with Metallic/Glossy/Specular material.
