For some reason in some scenes I cannot get the denoise pass to show anything except black..but hovering over the DeN tab in the viewport it shows eg. 1956 samples, or whatever its actually up to, ie much more than the set minimum.
On another scene it works as expected, that is, after a short black image, the denoise pass "kicks" in and it shows a progressively refining image.. along with the main and noise pass that I often view.
Another thing, which may be linked to V4 early days... But I can only set ONE GPU to denoise in the preferences.
I run 6 gpus, 4 in an external rig, two on the mobo. All can be set to be active, or used for tonemapping, but only one can be set to the denoise. If I click on another GPU, it sets the first one off and puts a "tick" in the newly selected one, not both.
Is this correct?, only one GPU can be used for denoising?
Yes, for now, we support only one device for denoising and denoiser pass black screen might be for out of memory, check the log window for more details.
Thanks, but I cannot see where the log file is, that is there is no button, or menu selection that is "log file".
The other thing is that as I mentioned, if you hover over the tab "DeN" next to main beauty pass, it does show denoise in progress and a number of samples which does change with time, but the screen is black.
Also, just this very minute I was testing a scene which was "black" for the denoise pass, but had 2000+ samples attributed to it, I was looking for the log file and clicked a button... don't know which one, but maybe scene node inspector collapse, uncollapse and the denoise pass magically appeared in the viewport. My onscreen bar does not show all memory used up, there is a small amount free.
Edit... Ok, maybe not magically... maybe co-incidence, I have looked at the progress much closer. It seems that the denoiser kicks in after 430 or so samples, why I don't know as it is set to 10 the Default, so I'll have a look at the scene I had issues with, maybe I didn't let it cook enough and I may have only had 2 GPUs on not the 6.
Second edit... No, it's weird, some scenes work and some don't. Yes there are problems with the scenes, as most are exported from Modo through the plugin and then I've been using that ocs file to test and perhaps I've been a bit slack with keeping things clean and neat. A lot of the scenes have multiple area lights and IES lights, so how that affects things when sent through the plugin I don't know. Normally its fine, but for the denoiser perhaps not...? Some scenes produce a denoise pass within a second or two of starting rendering, some as above, 20-30 seconds or so (400+samples) and others nothing at all even after 8000 samples.
