does this include the timespan needed for the human race to excavate and reach distant solar systems because our sun melts down?
Hmm, dunno - but if we're gonna excavate we'd better start digging soon! :o :)

i meant the deep hole we're already sitting in & on its very bottom, formed by gravity ;) no need to dig any deeper...

Don't worry - it all started when t_3 joked about how long I was willing to wait, suggesting that as i gave no end time was I willing to wait until we had to leave the planet before the inevitable death of the sun (probably by expansion into a red giant) burns the planet to a crisp. However, instead of saying 'evacuate' he said 'excavate'. So, me being me, I took the typo and ran with is, suggesting that as digging (excavating) our way out of the solar system was going to take a while we had better start soon ;)

And then it got silly :) Mind you, digging down we'd encounter less gravity, not more, as we approached the core ... ;)

Lately I have a lot of crashes when I work with the Octane plugin. Sometimes when I work on a scene and sometimes (like just now) with only 1 figure. This time it happened when I added the hair to the character during rendering. Nothing special. Daz Studio however gave me 'the finger' and an error report (always the same one). It says that 'Daz Studio.exe' caused an access violation at 'C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\octane.dll'.

So, the scene cannot be opened and I have to start over again. Although it is just a hobby of me, this is very frustrating. I cannot work with unreliable software (not good for the blood pressure :)). So if this means I cannot work with Octane anymore (the plugin that is), I would be very disappointend, because I love Octane. But I'm not a computerexpert, just a user. So all these error reports are abracadabra for me.

I'm not sure if this is something for the Octane 'helpdesk'or for the Daz support, but maybe someone can help me with this. I would be very grateful.

I use Daz Studio 4.6 and the Octane plugin V1.0.111 beta/64 bits. And I have a GTX 660 graphic card.

here is a part of the errorlog. It's 47 pages long, so I won't bother you with the whole list :) If you want the whole report, just let me know.

hi Zwavelaar!

first and most important question: have you updated your plugin already? v1.0.111.???? at least looks like this might help you quite a bit.

just in case - the latest version is available from here:
http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=33059

to find out about changes and added features from previous updates, you'll find a link list here:
http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=30137

i'm sure the latest update will give you a much better experience, though it won't be completely trouble free; the plugin is still beta, and in general is currently undergoing heavy changes.

anyway, feel free to post or pm me if you have new or other problems...

Thanks for the quick and great support. I just did the latest update and everything is working fine again. Even the 'crashed' scenes can now be opened in Daz.

Wow, thanks again!

PS: I love the new light features (sun size and sky color). You're doing a great job with this plugin. Very impressive. And the support on this forum is fantastic. Especially for a noob like me :)

Hi, I'm having repeated crashes of DS 4.6 with the latest update of the OctaneRender plugin (OcDS_Update_v1_0_113_2313-x64) on Win 8 Pro x64.

I tried uninstalling the plugin and then reinstalled it which seemed to fix the problem for a few days but today when I tried to open DS it crashed and hanged in the task manager. I have to close it in the task manager, remove the OctaneRender plugin folder from program files and then DS will open normally.

For some reason OR plugin is being corrupted and crashing DS.

In contrast, I also have another copy of OctaneRender DAZ plugin installed on a Win 7 Pro x64 system without any of these problems.

UPDATE:

I've found a solution. It seems that I just need to replace the plugin folder with a fresh copy and all is well.

Maybe this happens because the plugin gets corrupted if DAZ crashes? I don't know if this is possible but may I suggest that the 'OctaneRender Main' has the option to always open as undockable?

can you please download the installer from your octanelive download page and install the plugin again - there might be a problem with windows 7 aero detection (note: the installer meanwhile contains an updated plugin version)...

Thanks for your incredibly quick response! I've managed to find a solution which seems to work. I'll try this out and if it doesn't work in the long term seek further help.
