Well I don't have any fireflies at all. The first image in this post was rendered with PT Octane 2.46
The only reason why I downsample is to fix AA problems.
The trick is if you're using bump to use a very small amount.

well strangly enough I didn't used any bumpmap, so it can't be the reason why.
May I ask you your daylight parameters (lat, lon, offset, power etc) just to see if different locations, time etc can induce some light incidence singularities wich might cause lots of caustics to be cast under certain situation?

For the glass I used a 100% opaque setting because otherwise the sun doesn't come through.

Are you a Modo user aswell btw?

Nice test you got going here, will be interesting to see what you end up with! To better match the original photo I think you should try with linear camera response to get rid of the strong yellow tint. A hdri map for the outside would of cause be nice too. For some reason pt seems to be sharper, more crisp than pmc, so if fireflies is no problem perhaps try to use pt. This would be a great test candidate for the new portal light function if you have the time... looking forward to see your next render!

thnx... I actually added the yellow tint in post
In my next render I'll fix this and I also got a better camera match.
my next render will be with PMC, after that I'll try PT + light portals.
I have to read the tutorial to find out how it works, but basicly I have to add some polyogons behind the windows and give it a portal material?

no problem, I like the yellow tint, it just not match the original :)
As for portals I think you have got it right, just make a big polygon outside the window and assign a portal material to it in octane. I have not done much test with portals, but from other posts here it looks like the portals add more "precision" to the light, a tad bit sharper shadows and highlights.

well, they are secrets!(mostly proprietary dev tools, lots GIS, cityengine etc)
concerning this PT image of yours, I'm currently testing the scene with really simple materials ie: no maps at all, only simple parameters; I'll add later some spec/roughness maps to see if it has an impact on the fireflieness of the rendering

Here's one with some post work on it.
I used 2.48c and PMC for this one.

I just tweaked the settings a bit more and let it cook over night so tomorrow I'll have a better version.

If you have comments please post them.
it's pretty good

I think the exterior is under exposed.
