I think Octane is great, and waiting for a great thing, makes the waiting seem even longer.
I totally agree ! :D

And we are really lucky, because new releases come more often than Christmas ! ;)

i was thinking... octane can have is own replicator system... example

1 - import the base .obj with diferent materials
2 - one of those materials (maybe with a correct uvmap) will be the distribution surface
3 - import a new obj (distributed item)
4 - link the distributed item through a replication daemon (with parameters that can be modified with maps) to the distribution surface...

maybe this is already thinking... but i need an excuse to comment something here and ask for the camera clipping feature...

please dont forget the camera clipping!

thanks, and sorry for any language mistake

i use replicator word because of luxology modo

I love Octane Render but it's difficult to render a exterior scene with grass and trees. I will wait out this instance function !

No instances, no motion blur, we're still waiting for features but never comes. Refractive Software you better wake up soon, Blender cycles is already providing multi-gpu, layers, sss, volumetric, instances and motion blur (some of them in an experimental way) while cycles development has a much smaller time period than Octane, so if this still going on in a months time cycles is going to provide a full range of render features while Octane will still in the past.

Instances should be in the next beta.
Cycles was based on existing code which gave it a jump start and it hooks into Blender.
Octane is from the ground up and it is now catering to different apps with plugins.
It all takes time. Be patient. Refractive are getting well through their promise list for v1. :)

I just hope RS won't overextend themselves with integrated plugins and focus all their resources on them. What's integration worth if features progress at snail pace?

Even if there was a Blender plugin in the works, for example, I would rather have a more feature-full standalone than integration.

I like comments without any basis knowledge.
Cycles is an integrated solution, so it should much much easier to implement some features.
Cycles have direct access to blender and all scenedata, where Octane standalone is a seperated app which can only import obj files.

@matej
Well they make good sales from having integration.
They sell maybe another 2000 licenses for plugins and standalone and fairly quickly.
This is good for future sales too when v2 upgrades roll around.
More revenue is more money to hire more staff.
Unlike Blender, Refractive have to support themselves directly in a commercial environment and make priorities.
Once they have a plugin it is only small updates for each beta.
So after the initial effort the workload should fall back and development of the core code can continue.
I agree though they need to pick up the development rate in comparison to their competitors.
Another coder and a documentation/marketing person would be a good idea.
I thought @philbo was doing a good job of the manual and videos. ;)

The integrated plugins are behind the standalone.
First the standalone and then a new sdk to add new features in the integrated plugins.
And this cost some time...
