I've got an HDRI environment for lighting the scene and an Octane daylight providing a backplate.
My animation moves from outside the front of a house to the inside.
If the light is OK for outside then it's too dark when the camera moves inside.
If the light is OK for inside then the external bits are way too bright.
Can't see any way round it other than animating/ramping up the exposure as the camera goes into the dark interior. Also will have to darken the octane daylight(backplate) when the sky becomes visible from inside.
The article you linked to mentions that a sunny exterior can be 30 times brighter than inside. Reckon that's the problem.

Yes, and if notice, as you drive and enter and exit a tunnel your eyes will feel everything underexposed or overexposed for a while.
maybe you could animate the camera exposure.
