yes Multi/Sub are ALWAYS a problem..since a long time now...in my case i have some sub materials that are mix within a mix (SSS Shader for characters) for example..those take even longer..a Multi/Sub of about 17 subs and of those, around 5 mix within a mix can take around 15seconds to update 

Corei7, 6x GTX1070 (2 Inside and 4 in a CUBIX Xpander), 32GB Ram, Win10 64Bit Home, 3dsMax2017 64Bit, Octane for max 3 and LOVING IT!!!!

I agree, this is so sluggish ….
Plus absolutely crap when opening material editor during LiveView rendering. Man, this can tak up to 5-8 minutes on GTX1080Ti + 2xGTX1070!

Same problem here ... but hey don't worry otoy is working on v4 so we will soon stop complaining about all majors problems of v3 and focus on debugging v4 ... can't wait to have time and test redshift or vraynext, octane is worse every year ...
