As much as I like my H630 (black one), you might be even better off with that Thermaltake CORE W100, or something similar, like a Corsair 900D... You just can't lose with those, since they have a ridiculous amount of fan/rad spots...

Do you not own Octane? Just curious...

Yes I own octane but I'm on the VR subscription and pay $20 p/m which is pretty bad as I do t think I have privileges for certain forums, not sure if they have this system properly sorted as I cant license the beta versions either.

I have the standalone license and cinema 4D plugin, I've noticed that others have it under their avatar which is probably why people aren't so willing to help even though I am a paying customer.

Can someone please have a look at this and tell me if there are any improvements, or bringing the price down. Keep in mind that I won't be using Octane for every project as some will require different styles, so I still need a decent CPU.

I've crunched the price as much as possible without losing too much. I may just grab the one graphics card for now then add more once I'm up and running (I've added the four on Part Picker arguments sake.

Any body have any thoughts on the case as its the cheapest full tower I could find which has decent reviews.

Cheers!

I just realised I posted the wrong link..

I don't think anyone is responding to this thread anymore but posting the correct link just on the off chance.

Hi this list looks good. You don't need the six core for octane but I suppose, in general, the x99 motherboard offers nicely spaced PCIe slots for four cards for less money than the z170 platform. Hybrids are the best--I've entirely switched over to them. You may take a look at the new 1070gtx hybrid which have the potential to be more powerful performers for much less money. The Core X9 case looks like the best one for housing four of these GPUs. I have the corsair 540 and want to switch for room for radiators. Good luck!

As I explained to Mike in response to a pm he sent me, I think that a 360mm cpu cooler is waaay overkill and he should be fine with a good 120mm (H80 etc), thus only taking up one fan spot for cpu cooler. In addition, that case does not appear modular enough (and only two front 120mm), for all the rads/fans he is going to want. And taking up any room inside with an internal HDD is wasted space and decreases airflow, when he could easily/cheaply go with an external USB3 HDD. Anyone disagree with any of this? Does anyone know THE case to get, for a good five 120mm rad setup? Please do speak up, because I am sure that others can benefit from this info.

As for the i7 5930k, he gets 40 PCIE lanes with that, which is nice to have.

And what is the latest/greatest case fans lately, where price+performance+sound is concerned. I have not been in the market for a while.. Are Noctuas still king of the hill? BeQuiets? Again, good info that many here can use.

Cheers guys!

I've updated the list http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/n9qYXH

So I've had to bite the bullet and gone with the Corsair 900D at the moment, as its huge! I can't see me having a problem with space and airflow, but correct me if I'm wrong. This case maybe a little overpriced but at least it seems to have a lot of popularity when it comes to 4x SLI builds due to its size.

The 1070 looks good but price is similar to the 980ti and I'm pretty sure it has less CUDA cores? Although it is a pascal card, not really sure what that means exactly but I do know its Nvidias newer architecture. Does this really give any benefit to the Maxwell cards, I mean to me looking at the numbers the 980ti is a cut above the 1070 but yet an older card? So confusing... Not sure if these are just marketing names or if they actually make a difference.

I've also changed the CPU cooler to the one you said frank, so thanks for that!

How long would you estimate it would take to build this thing once I have all the parts? Given my lack of experience..

Thanks a lot for the advice so far guys!

Excellent. 900D was a sure thing. So that is solved. But you are going to want to nail down your placement of crap, and hopefully some other dudes can jump in here and tell exactly how to best place these five rads/fans in a 900D, and exactly which intake fans (best bang for buck) you should get and exactly where to put those. Can't hurt to educate yourself a wee bit on positive/negative pressure in your case -- here is a decent article I found: http://silverstonetek.com/techtalk_cont ... ve&area=en.

Your CPU cooler and Hybrid coolers are all going to have thermal compound on them, so you will not need to mess with application of those, which will make this go a little quicker for you. But if you have never built a PC at all, you will certainly want to watch some YouTube videos about installing various things...

Edit: No one else - out of a thousand - seem to want to contribute. Weird.

I know its strange. I think its because I don't have 'Licensed Customer' under my avatar even though I am, maybe people think I've got a cracked version or something. I have got in touch with Otoy support for a few issues and never once got one of them sorted, no offence to them. Maybe its because I signed up to the forum before purchasing Octane, not quite sure if I did.

So yes if anyone else wants to chip in with how to place (potentially) 4x GPU fans in a 900D, it would be awesome as I want to start purchasing the parts in the next few weeks.

Cheers.
