OctaneRender for Carrara 3.0.12.10[Beta]
I have posted a new update on this thread. This is an attempt to fix your issue. I really don't know why you are seeing this and no one else is. I suspect your dual-xeon system but I have no way to verify the problem.protovu wrote:Hi Simon,
Seem to encountered a gremlin when trying to launch the new preview. Please see attached.
If you get a 'Cannot open Octane Viewport' message please post the contents of the message. There should also be a log file "octane_log.txt" that gets generated in the Extensions\OctaneRender directory where you installed the plugin. If the log file did not get generated then you probably have UAC enabled on your system and you should run Carrara 'As Administrator' and try to repeat your issue. If you are confused by what I am asking you to do then let me know and I will post a step by step procedure.

Thank you, Simon. Octane is now working as previously, accessible by ctrl+shft+R.
And, after an initial hitch, the RenderRoom is now working. Initially, when launching an Octane Render from the Render Room, in either batch or direct, there was no activity.
By that, I mean, no render window, and no error messages, no freeze. Attempting to pause, or abort resulted in greyed out options (attached). Now here is the weird part......
Now the Batch Queue is working. After trying twice, closing after failure......in trying to give you more details, I tried again. This final time, I was able to reset the render and launch the batch queue successfully!
I did not need to switch to "Run as Adminstrator" to have the Octane viewport appear, but did so anyway in order to generate the .txt file you mention.
I do get an error in the yellow status bar of the batch queue when pausing the render. At point, Reset is an available option.
Great work!......and without a Xeon system.....feeling around in the dark and you still figured it out. Amazing.

Hi Simon,
Some findings:
Object effects>octane layers is missing.
Correspondingly, the Miscellaneous Data seam for objects is gone in the sequencer.
___________________________________
HDRI file not loading for first rendered frame in batch queue. Please see attached, where frame 1 is actually frame 120 in the sequencer, but the first frame of the render. Please see missingHDRIframe1.png.
-----------------------------------------------
Unable to designate starting sequence in Octane Render (not batch queue). Even though I designate 3 digits for Starting Sequence, 4 digits remain showing for Current Sequence. This dis-syncs renders with Sequencer, messing up file correspondence with video editor. Please see sequence indication adjust.png
Thanks for your help.
Rick

Hi Simon,
Attached is a file which has been crashing on save, using Ctrl+S , when the Octane viewport is up. I have dumbed down the materials to see if one was
a culprit. This file, normally much more complicated has behaved perfectly with 2.25.
Your help appreciated,
Rick

The problem is with the preview renderer that kicks in when you save a scene when the Octane Renderer is selected in the Render Room. I'll add this to my known issues. For now, do not save when the Octane Renderer is selected in the render room. Switch back to the Photorealistic (or any other) render before saving.protovu wrote:Hi Simon,

That's weird, I'll look into it.protovu wrote: HDRI file not loading for first rendered frame in batch queue. Please see attached, where frame 1 is actually frame 120 in the sequencer, but the first frame of the render. Please see missingHDRIframe1.png.
I'll add a preference that allows you to specify the number of digits in the sequence number.protovu wrote: Unable to designate starting sequence in Octane Render (not batch queue). I am so glad my hunch paid off. I will definitely be working on render room stability issues in future releases.

Hi Simon,
Came across a batch queue oddity.
In a file that has object visibility toggled off in the sequencer for some objects that start out visible:
when rendering directly through Octane, the objects disappear as expected.
When rendering in Batch queue, the same objects do not disappear.
Thank you,
Rick
