Aha forget the "bin" and it should point at the plugins not Octane standalone.

Sorry, the plugin is in open beta, but this is a paid beta at reduced price. To use the plugin you must buy a Houdini plugin license, that now has a reduced $99 price until it leaves the beta state.
There is also a demo version, but it is a bit outdated. I need to update it.

Yes, sorry. As far I know all the Octane plugin betas are full commercial licenses, but sold at reduced price until the plugin leaves the beta state.

Still doesnt hurt to mention / remind in the forum posts because "public open beta" does not feel like something one pays for.

Nope, the demo is not really old. It is based in the first public build of the plugin, two months ago, so it should work without big problems.
