It works when I set the Emission Number to 10.

But when I set it to only (!) 100, then the hole Operationssystem gets very slow, almost frozen and it seems not to render (I did restart the Computer after >5 minuntes of waiting).
Hi Alain,
Set your carpet patch mesh type to Scatter, as in the screenshot below.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the hint.

@JimStar
Why isn't this set automatically if an Object is used for a Particlesystem ?
The workflow at the moment makes no sence from my point of view.

Kind regards

Is it possible to import CSV files to do the scattering, so Blender is fast in the viewport and I can combine it with Phantom Scatter? I have some new features coming up and it would be awesome to be able to fully replace Octane standalone by Octane inside Blender. :)

This is a real shortcoming! Please look into this, I don't know how difficult it will be, but a CSV file is just a list of matrices that in the standalone, a Scatter node imports.

If some programming genious would create a plugin that converts Cycles materials and node trees to Octane materials and node trees, I would buy it in a whiffy!

Cheers!

I would pay 100 $ for such a convertor.

Regarding the material converter thing, +1.

With regard to materials, I'm also wondering if it is possible to do something similar to the standalone, where we can see all of the material slots in a list for a global mesh. Sometimes, it can be so tedious to chase down all of the materials in a scene. If it was presented as a hierarchy so you could see what mesh it is as well that would be nice.

Lastly, I know I've seen it mentioned, but I can't find it - does anybody know if installing the latest standalone (2.14) will bugger the current Blender/Octane version? Or more generally put, must we keep the Blender/Server and standalone versions in sync?

What is the problem with Blender outliner?..

It does not matter if you have another standalone version installed locally. It does matter only if you are using network rendering - in this case you must have exactly the same version of render slaves.

Jim-

Thanks for the reply.

I don't really have a problem with the outliner view in Blender. I was just imagining a view similar to how you have the Live DB view. Perhaps a tab on that display named Scene Materials that shows the materials in the scene in a layout similar to the Live DB layout, with previews and so on.

That said, I know you have bigger fish to fry. I was just floating it as a "what-if" type of suggestion.

Cheers,
