that can surely help pick what's going to be chosen

pixie makes a good point there, Google uses Collada for Google earth and allows exporting to google earth in the free version, this would allow Sketchup(free) users to use octane without having to go through a third party app to convert the file format.
My App of choice works with FBX and Collada, so I don't mind. Though from the work I have done with rendering, I have been recieving Collada files to render.

I change my vote for Collada, because Octane render need more users and customers
Google sketchup is futur-proof also, I also use Sketchup and I love it.
I will wait for FBX that's not a big deal
But if you implement Collada, Octane render need to be on this list
http://sketchup.google.com/intl/en/down ... ugins.html
In the Photorealistic Rendering (with another renderer) section
I bet Google will love that Octane support Collada

I am for COLLADA, because Sketchup is the model application that i use the most.
And Radiance, maybe the following links will help you:
https://collada.org/mediawiki/index.php/OpenCOLLADA - it is a COLLADA SDK and plug-ins for Max and Maya
http://www.opencollada.org/faq.html - here you can find under what license the OpenCOLLADA SDK is offered (MIT type) and where you can download the source code for the SDK
Hope that helps!
Edit: FBX will be nice, too! Someone here on the forum reminded me with his (unrelated to this topic) post that i will use FBX on at least one important for me instance! Thus, i would like the both, please
!

I vote Collada, because its open
FBX is bloated.
LightWave Core will have native Collada support, and Modo(which i use has it also). Arnie Cachelin, one of the developers of Modo had this to say: "Warn him off FBX. Really."
