I also only guy vegetation made out of geometry or make my own trees with growfx.
In vary and other renders there seems to be an option to load the alpha map in a different way so they don't hit render time. I made a thread about it her a year or two ago but never got a proper answer.

Yea, in MODO loading the alpha map as a "stencil" is faster than other methods like "transparent amount". Wish Octane had something similar. Rebuilding tress with geo is not a viable workaround for me.mbetke wrote:I also only guy vegetation made out of geometry or make my own trees with growfx.

Yup in lightwave it's called a clip map.
