Minor update.

Still noisy on the curtain and leather. =(

Possibly need to add slight highlights on the armchair to the very left and the center chair.

Going to switch it up. Will come back to this view once my eyes get objective again.

O

Here's the higher (2000 px) res. version so you can see how much more apparent the noise is. 2000 pixels, PMC, 40,000 samples...and still noise.

I swear, it's gotta be the IES lights. Anyone with experience with IES lights vs. IES emitters? If you look at the image, I'm still getting noise on all the (IES) downlight highlights. Look at the floor even.

The 2 white standard octane planar fill lights (highlighting the left and right smoke chairs and the horse lamp) are giving me really clean highlights. I want more of that!

O

I like the composition of the piece, very interesting and the furniture is nice as well. But it feels so heavy. I feel like it needs more bounce light in the front a bit. Everything just seems to go to black which makes scenes dramatic but I feel it takes away the realism in your piece too much. It can be back lit but maybe adding some colour to the front would help. - otherwise though the piece feels like it has a lot of promise, so I'm looking forward to see how it gets finished.

Agreed. It is heavy. That's why I think some more pin-point hightlights in the black areas would help. Will definitely be playing with this. Especially on black on black scenes, I think more speculars will help.

I've looked at this so much that my eyes are losing their objectivity =). Will rinse and come back.

Thanks!!

delete all ies lights, use them only if you need to see the distribution effect on a wall.
I use a trick:
Don't use octane ies lights but planes or tiny circles (circle + edit poly) with applied a diffuse material + ies texture.
Ies emitter is useful only if you need up and down distribution because it's a 3d emitter.

Don't forget to enable proxy for ies mesh emitters.
