Thanks for the comments. The reflection is from the HDR map I'm using. This one is very similar to having a couple big bright soft-boxes. By carefully rotating it you can both get a good lighting and a beautiful reflection on the Eye Reflection surface ( results are better with V6 than previous Genesis figures regarding eye reflections for my part ).
Do you load the HDR map thru the light panel? I'm quite confused about the process, if you don't mind giving a couple more hints for the ignorant.joelegecko wrote:Thanks for the comments. The way I have done it is via the Lighting tab, and from the drop down select the relevant option of the three presented (I'm in the midst of something so cannot look atm) which are, in effect, no 'external' lighting, sunlight, light via HDRI. When you have the HDRI option set you can browse for a suitable .hdr (also .exr, but not sure on that) to load.
Once the render is going you can use a dial to rotate the map to alter the lighting.

In the "OctaneRender for DS" panel, just open the Lights tab. The environment defaults as "Default Daylight Envionment". Pick the "Default HDR Texture Environment" from the drop-down menu.
Switch the flottexture "node" with the "image" one from the drop-down menu. You can now load your HDR map image. You can play with the power option if it's not bright enough. You can rotate it which will allow you to get the right lighting/reflections for your scene.

Thank you both, will try this. Any suggestions for a good HDR map(s)?

to get started you can use teh 10 or so that come with octane render. Those are good for studio/indoor scenes. I think they always show up first when you are picking an hdr image in the image picker dropdown.SimonWM wrote:Thank you both, will try this. Any suggestions for a good HDR map(s)?
I got a bunch of HDRI from here a long time ago that are free

Thank you, I tried Chelsea Stairs from your link. I try rotating in x but can't seem to get a reflection in the eyes.

For a good eye relfection the studio HDRs work better because they have bright boxes in them. The ones that come with octane have a few good examples of this.SimonWM wrote:Thank you, I tried Chelsea Stairs from your link. I try rotating in x but can't seem to get a reflection in the eyes.
The ones I linked to are nice for overall scene lighting IMO, but if you want reflections you would then need to add your own bright light in the scene. Even when using an HDR I tend to add my own mesh lights as well, so I don't find it to be a problem.

I thought Octane didn't read DAZ Studio lights.
