Why is this not covered in the documentation ? and which kind of material shall I use ?there is no texture environment material , but difuse , Glossy, specular etc...
Also I can't drop an Octane material in the max environment slot , it won't accept.
Please explain your workflow.
:?:
I think I know what you mean I've applied an Octane Image texture bitmap, not a material , on the 3dsmax environment slot ... and worked.
How EXACTLY should we do this? the Environment slot will make the background behave differently from having a viewport background image that I'm now testing for some camera matching test..I'll attach a screenshot..

Octane doesn't allow you to use background image by the same way as screen mode in 3dsmax.

Ouch  is this going to be fixed in a future release? Or is there a different way to obtain same results with Octane? I presume a sort of matte/shadow material composition and post production is in need....

 I forgot to say that I have applied an environment texture from Octane maps, and dropped in Max
environment slot,Then I copied it into the material editor (drag&drop) and applied an Octane image
as a texture for the environment .
I've chosen an HDR file and tweaked it, from the power , rotation and even gamma options in the
Texrture environment ,and image rollouts.
Basically you control Octane environment ,as an instance in the material editor.
