My spec. WIN VISTA ULTIMATE x64 / GFX280 / 4GB RAM / Core 2 Duo e6600 / ASUS P5W DH Deluxe
I found out there are not much differences in speed between x16 or 2.0 PCIe.... There are differences in power which slot can give to GPU - max 75W in x16 to 150W in 2,0 PCIe... On some forums say that the card may have problems with this...
I'll probably have to buy new hardware...

It's definately not the 8x PCI-E slot, as i've had multiple people tell me it works fine with a 8x slot.

Ok so I have a replacement card GTX 260 Everything works on my PCIe x16. GTX 280 has proved to be defective. Waiting for the new GTX 280 and this time I get down to testing Octane:)

Keep in mind that Cubix has connected discrete Quadro FX 5800 cards via external ExpressCard 34 connection to laptops running Octane Render. While it takes longer than being directly connected in a desktop PC (ExpressCard 34/54 = single-channel PCIe bus), it does run far faster than using the notebook's integrated GPUs, even faster than the most current, state-of-the-art mobile GPUs included in products like the new MacBook Pro series.
My point is this: if the OS sees the GTX card and it still crashes, it's not the bus connection speed that's going to be causing the problem. Faulty graphics cards and other issues would be the cause.
