Cycles has the option to toggle ray visibility for camera rays, shadow rays, diffuse reflection, glossy reflection & transmission components, for every object.

Pricing policy is different too. 8-)

I totally agree.
Adding the option to select the visibilty for shadows, reflections, camera... would be a great improvement.
Almost any render I know has these options and I use this very often when I'm designing user interfaces and for product visualization.
Please implement this feature, it would make octane so much more powerful.
