hi roeland,
it seems to me that the latest builts are significantly slower (-50%!!) than the previous (*57).
did it come from a different way to calculate or represent the rendering time?
if not do you consider it a standard behavior or can you suggest me to adopt some countermeasures?
thanks,
andrea
built *58 seems to be slower then the *57

when a new release is slower than previous, I think it has to do with the fact new features or adjustments made to the program and it the side effect from it. They will probably bring back the speed once the major features such as instances have been completed.
I too haven't noticed any speed drops between the two mentioned versions (the render speed is in fact exactly the same). If there would be a 50% drop, everybody would notice it.
It will be tho opposite. Karba already mentioned that instances will slow down render times. As it is kinda expected: more complex internal geometry representation == more flexibility, but slower render time.MaTtY631990 wrote:They will probably bring back the speed once the major features such as instances have been completed.

Maybe You've updated drivers or done something else..
Haven't noticed any slowdowns, mabe it's very scene specific.
Share a file to test =) have both versions instaled =)..

thanks guys for your answer,
I've the last 3 or 4 built installed and the scene is not an extreme one at all.
performance (with that scene) using the **5 7built is around 0,9 while with the **58** it drops down to 0.6.
same scene with the two releases running at the same time.
thank's in advance for yours tips & time,
andrea

I have reproduced the problem on a 8400GS, with the first 2.58 release. It seems to be limited to old cards, on Fermi GPU's the performance is the same. The compute model of your GPU is 1.1, is that correct?
The GPU usage should be close to 100% while Octane is rendering. Is this still the case in 2.58 (or later)?

I have also noticed a large slowdown for 2.58 vs 2.57. One scene in 2.57 that I tested completes in around 34 mins , but in 2.58 it takes 59 minutes!
Are there any plans to fix this issue in a future release?
BTW, I have a GT 240, which is compute model 1.2

Is there gonna be a fix for this rendering speed problems for "older" gpus like 8, 9 and 200 series ?
Should we hope to see this comeback in performance by the time Octane reaches 2.60 version ?
Thanks. And I'm eagerly looking forward to a reply from the ones in charge / able to help.
